An acoustic evening with Wednesday 13

Norwich Waterfront 25/02/16

I've always wondered whether VIP tickets to gigs were a worthwhile expenditure and tonight I got to see exactly what was included. At 5:30pm I was sat outside in the freezing cold at the Waterfront in Norwich waiting to be met by a representative of Wednesday 13. Debbie Called me over a little late due to being stuck in traffic and a PA issue, all the cold was soon forgotten when she explained I was to be the only VIP. Along with a tour shirt, laminate and signed picture, I got what was essentially a private gig, I listened to 4 or 5 songs whist the sound guy was getting things just right. That was awesome enough in itself but then I got to chat to Wednesday and Roman and grab a photo with them, such lovely guys! Even though I was the only person there I never felt like I was being rushed out or an inconvenience. All in all if you are a fan then I would highly recommend it.

On to the main event....

There’s a very relaxed feel to  Wednesday 13’s acoustic tour, billed as “An evening with..” There is no support band, and instead it's a two hour show from Wednesday 13 and guitarist Roman Surman. Mixing songs from his career going right back to the days of Frankenstein Drag Queens, Gunfire 76, Bourbon Crow up to the present day. Including Fuck You, Dixie Dead and I Want Bad Things To Happen To You. I must admit having not been to one of his acoustic shows before I was curious how the music would translate into such stripped down versions, the answer is very well, it certainly changes the tone of some songs but they lose nothing in translation. Fans are encouraged to ask questions, told stories from his sometimes crazy career, which span how he came up with certain songs through to batman sex tapes and stealing ladders. Great music and plenty of laughs made this a great experience that I would encourage any Wednesday 13 fan to get out to. If you missed out this time the full band will be back for Halloween weekend in London.
